This is a neat little thermometer. i'm not sure what it is made out of but it is metal - I think it is gold plated over brass. The plating does show it's age with some plate loss. The blue enameling is mint. The ships wheel spokes are all tight and secure.  The base has the original felt padding. The plastic front is good. The round frame is mint. I put this in the freezer for 5 minutes and it went all the way down to 40 degrees.  Now up to 72 degrees sitting on my desk so it works just fine.  item is marked on the dial frisy germany. Measures just a bit over 5.5 inches tall and 5 inches wide. All in all it's a minty sailor or captain's accent piece.
