Rhexoxylon africanum is a rare species of seed fern found in Gokwe, Zimbabwe, Africa. These fossil specimens are dated to the Triassic period, existing 237 million years ago. These excellent samples exhibit the fossil in slices and are excellent for both educational use to view the internal structure of flora as well as for aesthetic purposes. It is heavy - weighs 2.15 pounds - only one side is polished. It measures 8" across and 5/8" thick. It was thought to be a vine like plant with a woody trunk. These fossils are particularly rare and good solid agatized ones like this are a special treat for petrified wood collectors. The colors are high contrast and the wood grain is unique to this exotic species. The edges are nicely articulated with a natural patina. It represents a full, complete round and is a perfect slab taken from the end of the log, rough and naturally weathered on the back. I've only ever had one other piece ever - RARE find.
