I started collecting flamingo's way back in the 70's - not quite sure what has always fascinated me about them.  I found my first one at a church sale.  It was painted entirely white - it was a pitcher.  It cost me a dime. I knew what it was from the shape of the bird.  I took it home and dropped it into a big pot of boiling water for about 30 seconds.  The enameling peeled right off much to my squealing delight. It was beautiful and so it began.

Someone told me that many things in Europe were often painted ugly colors to keep the Nazi's from stealing things when they invaded their country - interesting thought - not sure if it's entirely true but maybe.
