PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION
This is my mystery piece. It has no markings whatsoever that I have ever been able to see. It has a lovely detailed orchid design with what I feel is a glass amethyst. I can see with a magnifying glass 3 very very tiny bubbles in one spot. There is some age wear to the glass on the surface. I couldn't exactly capture that in the pictures. The glass is NOT pristine. Pretty but not perfect.
I do not believe this is aluminium - it is far too heavy a piece weighing 44.3 grams. I did not attempt to polish the entire piece but did a quick rub on some of the more accessible parts like the flower petals and frame. It does polish up nicely. I do realize that aluminum was used in jewelry from the 1890's thru say 1920's but every piece I've ever had was much much lighter. Please do not purchase this item based on it being sterling - purchase it because it is a very lovely example of the ART NOUVEAU era. That's how I got it. It was purchased at auction.
It measures 3.5" across and 2 3/8" tall. The 'c' clasp is very clear in picture #5 and holds securely. A magnet does not stick to the pin mechanism and I've never actually seen anything but a sterling pin in these type of pins. If you have some other experience please share with me. I never profess to know everything.
The glass stone measures 1.25" long. I've had this pin in my possession for many years - I've admired and love it - it's time for someone else to love it. I've recently realized that I rarely wear any of my beauties anymore so check me off as a favorite if you appreciate this ear. I will be listing more. Thanks for browsing.
