These strands have been in my possession for the past 30 years.. Funny to call rocks vintage isn't it? I purchased an entire load of different type strands back in the late 80's. Obsidian is found in locations which have undergone rhyolitic eruptions. It was never found in china. This is not some fake dyed Chinese howlite rock - these are true Snowflake Obsidian beads - chip form - they range 3mm to 5mm in size and make for lovely accents. The strand measures 36" long. It's strung on fishing nylon so the hole is not real big. I have used them for years in jewelry accents - I purchased a huge lot of all kinds of different material but I have come to the conclusion I will never use them all so I am passing them on.
