Here's everything I know about this train. I am not a train person. I actually know nothing about the mechanism in the piece. I have no clue how it operates or how I could test it. It appears to be in mint condition with no paint loss - cracks - scratches and appears never used. It is stamped Bachmann China on the underside so I have to assume it's not terribly old. It's really heavy. It measures 7 1/2" long. The 2 bottom thingys move as well as the wheels. It's the only one I have - it's being sold as is. No returns. I do have other train items so check back now and then.
